DesktopStandard's PolicyMaker Software Update Receives CVE Compatibility Award
Software Addresses Security Vulnerabilities in Standards-Based Way

ORLANDO, Fla., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- InfoSec World Conference & Expo 2005 -- DesktopStandard Corporation announced that its leading Group Policy- based patch management product, PolicyMaker(TM) Software Update, received the prestigious CVE Compatibility Award today from MITRE Corporation at the MIS Training Institute's InfoSec World Conference & Expo in Orlando, FL. The product received the honor for its support of standardized definitions of security vulnerabilities and threats.

MITRE sponsors the industry-supported CV (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) standard, which provides standardized names and descriptions of more than 2,000 publicly known information security vulnerabilities and exposures. By supporting this standard, PolicyMaker Software Update is able to interoperate with major security applications from at least 52 major vendors whose products also conform to the standard, as well as give users ready access to the latest information on security vulnerabilities and how they can be promptly addressed.

PolicyMaker Software Update is a pure Group Policy-based patch management system that seamlessly integrates patch management with native Windows management technologies. DesktopStandard provides enterprise desktop management products based on industry standards, and recognizes CVE as the industry standard for vulnerability names and definitions.

"In supporting standard names for vulnerabilities, DesktopStandard enables its customers to relate what its PolicyMaker Software Update tool is telling them to the different vulnerability related resources, tools, and databases that are available to describe the threat that a particular flaw poses," said Bob Martin, CVE Compatibility Lead at MITRE.

"DesktopStandard builds solutions that comply with industry standards, and the accepted standard for vulnerability definitions is a critical for us to support," said Kevin Sullivan, product manager for PolicyMaker products. "We see CVE support as an essential step to protect our customers from security threats and provide them with the optimum solution for deploying software update policy across their networks. We build software to support entire networks, so we had better be compliant be with standards."
